July 1st- We loaded up, and got on the road. After a brief run in with the law enforcement of small town Virginia speed traps, we drove all night for a morning arrival in Hotlanta's Olympic Park.
July 2nd- Yesterday, After a night of driving and walking the mean streets of Atlanta... (okay, more like not a lot going on...)
Game 1 (Atlanta Braves vs. Baltimore Orioles) Braves 5, Orioles 4. Mixed bag. I really liked the stadium, but how are people still doing the tomahawk chop in the 21st century? I don't know, I kind of don't vibe with a lot of Southerners. The ushers yelled at some girl for going under the guard rail. C'mon. The stadium was pretty nice... but damn, I hate the Braves so much. The most of any National League team, I think.
The O's played horrendously. Luke Scott dropped a pop up that would of tied it, and a short while later, the Braves hit a grand slam.
Today: Slept in Sam's cousin's place after a nightime drive to Tampa Bay area Florida. Battled the traffic of the some Indy 500 boat race, before arriving at the Tampa Bay (devil) Rays stadium, a dome with sweet AC.
Game 2 (Tampa Bay Rays vs St. Louis Cardinals) Rays 8 Cardinals 3. Despite its reputation of being a total dump, Tropicana Field's not bad. The inside reminds me of a mall, but the field is pretty unique, as a dome. I think they're worked well with what they have. The ushers went out of their way to welcome us, probably because they have to. That's the thing about Florida, you have so many other things to do, its tough for baseball. You can check out other people on the beach, or you can go dancing, or go to a million other things... Or even in baseball, there's a million minor league teams who play at the major league team spring training spots, and so many people move here who bring their hometown team loyalties with them.
Anyway, the Rays played pretty well, defensively and had timely hits.
Game 3 Clearwater Threschers (Phillies A+ Affiliate) vs Lakeland Flying Tigers (Tigers A+ Affiliate) Threschers 11 Flying Tigers 3. Another nice field. Its fun to see the drastic difference between major league and minor. A guy we were talking to grew up in Kansas City, and had his heart broken by the Phillies in 1980. Then, he became a Rays fan in Tampa area, and had his heart broken again by the Phillies in '08. He roots heavily for the Threschers, the Phils Florida team, so he half heartily has to be Phillies fan as a hardcore Threschers booster.
Threschers crush Flying Tigers (named after an Air Corps in WW2 that helped China before the US entered the war.)
No more driving tomorrow for James, please.
